NHSD Board approves 5-year contract with SEIU
The North Hills School District Board of Education has approved a new five-year contract with the district’s Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The union represents North Hills’ 58 custodial and maintenance staff members.
The contract will be in effect from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2030. It was approved by SEIU members on May 7 and by the school board on May 15.
Contract negotiations between the district and union representatives began in October and concluded in April, well ahead of the expiration of the current agreement.
"I'm pleased we were able to come to an amicable and fair contract renewal agreement with the SEIU,” said Board of Education President Allison Mathis during the May 15 legislative meeting. “We appreciate all the hard work these valuable employees do to maintain our schools and ensure our community has access to well-maintained buildings and grounds. It’s not easy work, and we thank you for all that you do.”
Highlights of the new agreement include annual wage increases based on newly established staff tiers structured around years of service.
“This ensures longtime SEIU employees are rewarded for their loyalty and dedication,” Mathis added.
The district’s negotiation team included Superintendent Dr. Patrick J. Mannarino, Director of Finance Jerry Muth, board members Allison Mathis, Sandra Kozera, and Rachel Rennebeck, and solicitor Mike Witherel. Representing SEIU were district employees Darren Billeter, Patrick Clarke, Kimberly Fitzgerald, Tom Gosco, Tim Harrington and Chad Mueller, as well as Mike Feld, Field Representative for 32BJ SEIU.
